Shira and Gregg - The Thursday Club
Last October, I received an inquiry through my website from a couple for their February 2011 wedding. We got together soon after and chatted about what they wanted from their ceremony (and didn't want - just as important for me to know!). I could tell immediately that they were such a fun and loving couple, who just really enjoyed each other - and felt so incredibly lucky to have found each other! Luckily for me, her Mom was helping with some research and came across me online!
They were looking for something entertaining, not boring. They were spiritual, rather than religious, and their families weren't expecting anything from that perspective. They wanted to do their own vows, and read them. They loved the idea of the stories about them and their relationship. They wanted to involve the wedding party somehow. They wanted to acknowledge their families, and the great examples they both have of long-term relationships. And they wanted to break the glass, to acknowledge the Jewish heritage on her side (and because it's fun to do!). They also really enjoyed being unique and making the wedding their own - she has a "Man of Honor" and he had a "Best Woman." I loved it!
So, what did we create together? We included a family blessing, to acknowledge their importance in Shira and Gregg's lives, and the family they are building together, after which they gave gifts to their parents. They included "It's You I Like" by Mr. Rogers (and acted out very well by the Best Woman and Groomsmen!). They included a stone blessing, with beautiful colored glass beads, to include all of their guests in their relationship. The wrote amazing (and quite long) personal vows, which they read to each other - a terrific combination of funny and more serious, as that's so fitting for them. And they broke the glass at the end, to great applause and shouts of Mazel Tov and Congratulations! Plus, as always, stories about them from their homework assignment. In their case, the stories were particular fun, as they have so much fun together, and express it so well - it was great to be able to have everyone laughing, as well as a few tears, as they shared in the celebration!
Rebecca Seal captured their fun and loving relationship so very well with her pictures (check out the gallery below).
Thank you guys so very much, Shira and Gregg, for including me in your amazing relationship, and in your fun and unique celebration! I loved being a part of it and to getting to know you guys! Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness together!
