Kristin and Wes - La Jolla Cove Suites

Last February I received an inquiry through my website about a June wedding at the La Jolla Cove Suites. The couple was based in Chicago, so we set up a time to chat on the phone about their ceremony. (**Note, I usually offer with my out-of-town couples to Skype, if they prefer, so we can see each other, or phone - whichever they prefer.**)

They let me know that neither one was religious. And that they were looking for something casual but professional. They knew that it would be a fun crowd, of their friends and families, so they wanted it to be enjoyable.

They also were planning on arriving in to San Diego on the Wednesday before the Saturday wedding, so I filled them in on the process for getting the marriage license, as there would be plenty of time for them to do it then. We also made plans to get together for a brief in-person chat after their license appointment, just so we could meet in person before the wedding day itself.

So, what did we create together?  First, they wanted to honor and celebrate their families, so we included a family blessing - this one actually asked for each of their families to answer "We do" to two questions about offering the couple their goodwill and about welcoming the new spouse into their family.  They included two readings - but both as components of the ceremony that I read, rather than asking others to do so.  First was an "Oath of Friendship" written in China in the first century BC, and the other was "Art of Marriage" by Wilferd Arlan Peterson.  They wrote personal vows, but shared them, repeating the same vows to each other.

As always,  they completed my homework assignment about their relationship, so their senses of humor and fun connection came through very clearly during the stories I shared as part of the ceremony.   And I heard many comments from their families and friends about that afterward.

Thanks again, Kristin and Wes, for making me a part of your relationship and your marriage!  I look forward to seeing where life takes you together!
