wedding ceremonies - open to all

For us, the wedding ceremony is all about celebrating your relationship! We tell our couples that there is a reason that they are getting married in front of people, instead of just taking care of the legalities at the County Clerk's office. You want to celebrate your relationship in front of the people who matter most to you. And that's exactly what we will do together!  With a fun, personal, meaningful, and non-traditional ceremony that fits you and your relationship, truly celebrating who you are together.

Whether you are non-religious, spiritual, or inter-faith (or need a touch or a slight feel more to satisfy a family member than yourselves), or somewhere in between - and no matter what else it is that makes you who you are together - we are committed to creating a personalized wedding that incorporates your beliefs and values, celebrates who you are as a couple, and includes components and traditions that represent you best.

To know us is to know our commitment to marriage equality.

We want to be part of your special day. As celebrants unaffiliated with any specific religion or organization, we will design, create, and perform a unique ceremony just for you, as it will be about you and your relationship. Your ceremony can be simple, traditional, contemporary, or as elaborate and eclectic as you desire. Regardless of the style, it will be perfect for you. We believe your ceremony should be a personal reflection of your current relationship and of your future years together.  And we love that we no longer have to distinguish between a wedding ceremony and a commitment ceremony, for any of our couples.

The process begins with an in-person meeting (or via Skype or FaceTime if you are not based in San Diego) to see if we are a good fit for each other. We will discuss what is important to you, what you want and don't want from your ceremony, and then we'll talk about our process and how we work, including talking about some ideas you may not have heard about.  Then, with the input you provide through our two assignments, we will design a ceremony that truly reflects who you are, and your wishes for your ceremony - and that truly celebrates you in the way you deserve to be celebrated.

We promise to then present your ceremony, professionally and with caring, that will bring you and your guests tears of joy and plenty of smiles.

Let's celebrate your relationship together!

Fee Information

Our pricing is easy, as our ceremony fees are always the same, since we only do it one way - created to fit you.

Fees are structured to support time dedicated to writing and designing your ceremony, as every ceremony is custom, co-created with you in order to truly celebrate you and your relationship. Factors include meeting time and our communications, as well as the more important time spent both creating and officiating your ceremony.

The Officiant Fee is usually $745 for Bethel and $545 for Jason, but feel free to e-mail for a quote for your specific wedding, and feel comfortable in knowing that all services and fees will be discussed openly and agreed upon in writing prior to booking. Additional services, such as travel beyond approximately 30 miles from zip code 92003, or attendance at the rehearsal, may be extra.

(And we do happily offer a military discount for our active military couples, so the fee is only $600 with Bethel or $445 with Jason for active military members.)

A non-refundable retainer fee of $200 is required to hold your special date and to start the ceremony creation process with us.  The remainder is due two weeks before the day of the ceremony.

Cancellation
Ceremonies canceled less than 60 calendar days prior to the event will be billed in full.

elopement weddings

"Drama-Free Deluxe"

This is what a friend of mine called it when I said I was doing a pre-planned elopement wedding for a couple coming into San Diego purely for this. No family or friend drama, no details to distract you, just a celebration of your relationship!  A fun, personal, meaningful, and non-traditional ceremony that truly celebrates your relationship and who you are together, and what you want to express to each other.

There can be many reasons that have led you to decide that you want to "just elope!" No matter the reason, the end result is a wedding that is the two of you, me, and maybe a photographer to capture the moment (and to be our witness), or sometimes a few friends or family members too. And this wedding allows the two of you to focus on each other, and on your relationship, instead of on so many other things that become part of a larger wedding.

We absolutely LOVE being a part of elopement weddings, as couples who come to us for these ceremonies, rather than just going to the County Clerk's office to do it, are still looking for something personal, something created specifically for their relationship. And that is what we do together! We go through the same easy process as our couples with larger weddings, including the "homework" assignment about your relationship. It allows me to get to know you better and therefore to celebrate you in the way you deserve to be celebrated, and it is an exercise that my couples love doing, as it walks them back through the history of the relationship, and helps them to see why this is the partner for them, and to think about where they are going together.

Whether you are spiritual, inter-faith, non-religious/secular, a touch religious, or somewhere in between, I am committed to creating a personalized wedding that incorporates your beliefs and values, celebrates who you are as a couple, and includes components and traditions that represent you best.

We promise to then present your ceremony, professionally and with caring - no different just because it is only the three of us there - that will bring you tears of joy and plenty of smiles.

And, yes, if you have just a few guests, up to about 5-6 guests, this might still be the appropriate option for you. It is still your ceremony, without all of the hassles around a larger wedding. When it is larger than around 5-6 guests, I find that those there still appreciate the inclusion of your stories about who you are together, and therefore it becomes a more "normal" wedding ceremony rather than an elopement.

renewal of vows

Maybe your initial wedding wasn't exactly the way that you would have liked it to be, or maybe you desire to renew the special feelings you have for one another, especially on a special anniversary, marking a new chapter in your marriage in a special way. A renewal of vows ceremony is the perfect option! It's up to you: you can invite family and friends and make it a larger event, or you can even keep it super intimate with just the two of you or maybe with your children too.  No matter what way you choose, you will create a new special day in which you and your spouse renew the vows you made to each other, however many years ago that was, with a fun, personal, meaningful, and non-traditional ceremony that fits you and your relationship, truly celebrating who you have been and currently are together.  Or maybe you are looking to help your parents celebrate their 50th anniversary in a special way, really celebrating the family they've created along the way, and this is a meaningful way to do so.

In preparation, we will work together to create a personal ceremony that reflects the love you felt for each other as when you first celebrated your commitment, and how that love has grown and matured and changed through your years together. If you have children, we can definitely make them a part of this celebration of the life you have built together, if you would like.

Whether you are spiritual, inter-faith, non-religious/secular, a touch religious, or somewhere in between, I am committed to creating a personalized ceremony that incorporates your beliefs and values, celebrates who you are as a couple, and includes components and traditions that represent you best.

I promise to then present your ceremony, professionally and with caring, that will bring you and your guests tears of joy and plenty of smiles.

As Deborah and Dan shared: "Bethel led us through our vow renewal ceremony, and she was amazing! She worked with us long distance (we live in New Mexico) and helped us craft a personalized ceremony that perfectly captured our feelings for each other after 38 years of marriage and the connection we want to have going into our future together. She then officiated our ceremony on the beach in La Jolla at sunset... It was so beautiful and made even more so by Bethel's care for us and her shared joy in our recommitment to each other. It was truly everything we'd hoped for and more."

From Lisa and Paul:  "We cannot thank Bethel enough for making our wedding renewal fun, personal, and incredibly special. She really took the time to get to know us, despite us living far away in England! The "homework" was great fun to do and reminded us of a lot of great memories. Bethel is warm, down to earth, and simply a very lovely person. We would recommend her in a heartbeat!"
